Synopsis
Clotaire, a rebellious local teenager, falls in love with his schoolmate Jackie, but gang violence leads him down a darker and more destructive path. After years apart, the star-crossed lovers find that every path they take leads them back together. Beating Hearts was the lowest rated film by both French and international critics at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. complained that the film was too long, full of clichés, misogyny, that it ripped off several classic American films, that the love story was not believable, and that the two leads had no chemistry and were outshone by two teenagers.

Several critics and regular moviegoers also wondered why this film was selected for the main competition at Cannes when there were better films out of competition or in the sidebar that could have taken it instead. Screen International’s Cannes’s' the jury gave this film 1.4 out of 4 stars, while Chaos Reign’s Cannes jury gave the film 0.9 out of 4 stars and Ioncinema’s jury gave it 1.6. In Metacritic’s article on the best and worst films of Cannes 2024, Beating Hearts was the first to be included in “Disappointments”; list.. One of the characters wears a Rolex Daytona Ceramic in the 1990s, but the watch was not released until 2016.

I really expected a lot from this movie for three months and I’m really disappointed with the script because it’s very bad and boring that you don’t expect the end and the type of story to explain and happen like That’s why there was a very good pitch and a great potential to have one of the best stories in the film industry, too bad! First of all, the script pitch is great, you have everything to make such a good story for the audience to pay, but unfortunately the screenwriters poorly presented way to control the script… because the old time that explains the childhood, it’s nice, but too long and you feel boring because so many things happened and it' ; very helpful to show and explain like 30 minutes to show the past is great but 1h and 15 minutes it’s too long !!!You wait for the movie to restart when you see the old kids adults people well.. notice nothing moves everything , it’s too slow, not so much action, then the main character could do redemption for his old trouble to get revenge on all the people who betrayed him, but he doesn’t.

;t … I mean the story is better with ideas and it is so disappointed that the dramatic scene was not present enough very bad because it will be a great story !!!And from the script two main actors that we love, we only play 20 minutes together, it’s not very long for a 2h 40min movie and it’s a shame because we were waiting for more moments with these two actors, a very bad point… The direction, the soundtrack, the lights and the colors make the crew, that’s just the good points of the movie and also great acting by all the actors , but very bad points for me, the script is very slow and too long. because the alternative to some other ideas is great but it didn’t happen..
Thank you Gilles Lelouche for your great direction but your screenwriters and the different choices they made killed the movie even though this story is from a book and you can’t create the ideas you want
